Trade Only Dealer Outlook Blog

Five years and it’s still fun

When I first started writing Dealer Outlook, I practically had to look up the meaning of “blog.” I recall that I told the Trade Only editors I’d give it a try for a couple of months to see how it worked out. That was five years ago this month.

When I stop to think that I’ve now written more than 500 Dealer Outlook blogs, that the Trade Only staff reports there are more than 22,000 readers per month and that there have been literally hundreds of comments posted by readers over that time, I am both humbled and encouraged all at once.

Most of all, however, as I pause to reflect a bit today, I stand most grateful to:

• all of you who have taken time to click on Dealer Outlook and read the blog.

• all of you who have posted comments on one blog or another. It’s your comments that make the blog as much a sharing of opinions as it is useable information.

• Soundings editor-in-chief Bill Sisson who has given me real freedom to write about anything from new ideas that may be adaptable for marine retailing to political actions that can impact dealers (a never-ending list, it seems).

• The team of genuine professionals at Trade Only that I so enjoy working with and that never ceases to help make Dealer Outlook better.

I also feel fortunate that Trade Only was the leader in developing the marine industry’s first blog specifically for retailers and I was invited to play a part. Today, of course, blogs are in the mainstream of business and social communications around the globe. And, since we’ve received comments to various Dealer Outlook blogs from such places as Britain, Germany and Australia, we’re gratified to know this blog is read beyond the U.S.

Finally, I’ve signed on for a sixth year, primarily because it’s still fun. And, while I know every blog and every subject can’t be of interest to every reader, my objective is to present a blog that you can expect to be filled with opinions, comments, suggestions and news that makes you want to check out what’s in it every Tuesday and Thursday.

So thanks again for five years of support. You make writing the blog worth it.

    Norm –

Five years – wow! I’m honored to have worked with you so many of those years. Your blogs have always added a great voice to Trade Only Today and provided insightful and thought-provoking comments for its readers. Plus, where else can the industry read about the Sea Kittens?

Here’s to many more great years with Trade Only!!

    Norm,

You write one of the most readable and most informative blogs in the marine industry. I look forward to another year of your Dealer Outlook insights in Trade Only.

Best wishes from your fishing buddy and once-upon-a-time colleague at Johnson Outboards,
